JULIA BAX ON ZUDA COMICS!

Mr. Trildok Sings the Blues

Hello everyone!

I've been selected along with my mates Brian Joines and Michael Thomas to participate in the April 2010 ZUDA Competition! Our project is called 'Mr. Trildok Sings the Blues' and its about a demonic creature going through the woes of divorce. It's a fantasy/comedy adventure with lots of swords, battles, monsters, and of course iphones and laptops.

I would like to ask and invite everyone to check out the 8 page intro by clicking on the banner above! And, if you think we are worth your time, please spend 5 minutes SIGNING IN and VOTING for us! If we win, it's free content for everyone for at least a year! Also, if you want to give even more support, you should click '5 stars' 'add to favorite' and leave a comment so we'll know what you think!

Thanks everyone for the attention and I really hope you'll like our work.

That's all for this month!
Julia

Children's Book , new home and new portfolio art

I've been painting a lot, experimenting with different media including acrylics and gouache, which are very different from watercolors but really cool in it's own way. It feels a lot more like painting on the computer, when it comes to the process.

As a side note, I also have been living in Paris, France, for the past 5 months! The city is really really cool but I'm still struggling a little bit with French. I'll be at the comics festival in Angouleme in january 2010, if anyone wants to meet there send me a line!

I have had the pleasure of holding the first non-school children's book I ever illustrated, for the company Cia das Letrinhas, one of the best and biggest in Brazil.

You can see the cover here. There are also a few inside illustrations in the gallery.

Well, hope you are all doing great!

Total website update!

It had been so many months since I last updated the website that it had really lost its usefulness. The portfolio was extremely out of date and no longer reflected what I was doing, so instead of just adding more art to the gallery I erased everything and replaced it with new art.

I changed the categories as well. I think it's easier to find what you are looking for in this manner.

The main change is that I have been dabbling with watercolors a lot so you will find many real media art in the illustration section.

Hope you all enjoy the new stuff. I'm still posting studies and sketches on my blog http://juliabax.blogspot.com.
Happy new year everyone! Hope to hear your feedback about the rework.

X-men!

Just wanted to let you all know that my first work for Marvel Comics, a fill-in issue of X-men First Class (#4) has hit the stores in the US! You can check some preview pages here.

Aside from that, I have a blog now. Much faster to update than the website - lots of new stuff there!
Go check it out: http://juliabax.blogspot.com

Well, I guess thats all for now. I'll come back eventually to update the gallery too.

Start spreading the news!

Well, as usual the gap between updates is getting bigger! And I have some interesting news for you people.

First of all, I have started doing work for a new american comic publisher called Boom Studios. They are very nice people and I´m excited to join them.

The first book with my art to be coming out is a one-shot called "Black Plague". Script is by the well-known writer Joe Casey. Hope everyone can get their hands on a copy - it's good stuff.

Cover by the awesome, incredibly talented artist Dave Johnson.

I also have some other work lined up - a short story, drawn AND colored by me, and written by Johanna Stokes, to be published in a new anthology called "Pirate Tales" - and a 3 issue mini telling the origin of Boom's funniest super-hero group, "Planetary Brigade", written by JM DeMatteis and Keith Giffen.

In addition to that, I have also been awarded the HQMix prize for best upcoming artist - it's kinda like the brazilian Academy Awards for comics. There was a party, and I got a very cute trophy to adorn my studio.

I have added a lot of new art to the gallery - around 20 new images, most being sequential pages or colored artwork. Please stop by and let me know if they're ok!

Best,
Julia

IMAF Manga/Anime contest

Long time since I last updated! But I have good news to make up for it.

I won the IMAF anime/manga contest in the Open Character Design for Children category! I´m so thrilled, both because people enjoyed my work and because there was an awsome ca$h prize.

The website of the IMAF is www.imaf.co.uk . Please pay a visit and check out my (and the others) winning work.

And, in this long period that I haven´t updated Kaos magazine had another issue published with another story pencilled by me, and also the Jaw-Breaker 2 vol. anthology was released with a 12-page story drawn by me. Cool, huh?

on top of that I´ve been drawing a lot and you can see some new stuff on the Gallery section. I have abolished the "recent" frame and I´m giving all the new art thumbnails a "frame" so you can know easily which they are.

Take care, and hope to be back with more and better news soon!

Happy New Year!.

Yay, finally new stuff in the gallery section! I added some colored work, two sketches and a page. Please go see it now! And then tell me what you think. I´m SO enjoying coloring my work!! But there´s still a long way to go!

I hope that from now on I can make more updates. It´s just that after the holidays I felt so lazy, and actually updating is a pain in the @$$. I know now why people use blogs and journals and deviant art to show their work. Well, whatever.

Hope you guys like it!

New pages uploaded.

Please check the recent links below. There are pages and also some computer made sketches.
I´m hoping next week I can try some real world inking and shadowing, and put them here. Hopefully I´ll have my scanner back until then. There are more pages to this Spider Man sample, but I´ll show them next week =)

Bye!

Long time no see

Hi there,
Well, I decided to make weekly updates in this website. So, Friday is the day! Unless something really odd and unexpected happens to me, next Friday there will be new stuff here. You can come back. Seriously. =D

Please send me your sugestions, remarks, and support.

Some people have asked me to insert comments and info on each drawing. It´s a good idea, and I´ll try to work on it during next week.

See you all next week.

I´ve been promising this website to myself for a while, but couldn´t work on it until now. The gallery is still not complete, but slowly I´ll fill it up with brand new stuff for you! I hope that I can update this journal frequently as well. Let´s see what happens!

Please send me comments and remarks through the "contacts" area.

See ya,
